Two Detentions Following Heathrow ‘Pepper Spray’ Attack

Placeholder Heathrow Airport scene
The assault caused the partial closure of the Central Terminal Area tunnel and the T3 parking area.

An additional two individuals have been arrested related to a robbery at Heathrow Airport in which 21 people sustained injuries by what is thought to be pepper spray, according to police.

A 24-year-old man, was taken into custody in Lambeth on suspicion of robbery and assault and a 23-year-old woman was arrested for suspected conspiracy to commit robbery. They both remain in custody, the force said.

The arrests follow a probe into an assault at the multi-storey car park at Terminal 3 on Sunday. Prior to the attack, two women had stolen from them their suitcases after getting out of a parking garage elevator.

A three-year-old girl was one of the injured during the incident. A total of five individuals went to hospital for medical care and have since been discharged.

Police detained a man in his thirties for suspected robbery and assault close to the scene. He has since been released under investigation as the investigation proceeds.

Police were alerted at about 8:10 in the morning GMT after reports came in regarding several individuals injured by a noxious substance thought to be an irritant spray.

The assault - an event that authorities stated was a standalone incident and not considered terrorism - caused train delays and the temporary shutdown of the main airport tunnel and the T3 parking facility briefly.
