Tetris Wouldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Might Solve This

Whenever a major honors show nears, you'll find a clamor for introducing fresh award types to acknowledge unsung work and fill the spirits of fans dedicated to specific genres.

My colleague has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. So would strategy board titles, which is someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance if I try to elbow in front just as with other blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification for why my demand is the most urgent above others. The demand is this: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Classifying creative works isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and it will always start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. Yet it remains a necessary evil within the realm of video games, which are so diverse they barely qualify one unified medium.

To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, and to ensure all game types to compete fairly, specific award classifications remain vital.

Present Award Structure

Leading game ceremonies offer these award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these classifications successfully include many game types, and you can find room for most games within them.

Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Consider three of recent excellent titles, all very different: structural challenges in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition of another game, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. Which classification works between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

Numerous examples exist excellent brain-teasers launched regularly that have no home in entertainment awards, except when they manage to fit for categories like Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title got overlooked for anything that year
  • Another imaginative release was excluded during that ceremony
  • A beloved organization game got ignored recently
  • Only a few brain-teasers barely qualified for independent or mobile categories

Value of Brain-Teasers

Commonly they're compact experiences, yet the craft of the puzzle game carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles rank among most popular titles globally continuing this trend for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience challenges well-known building titles competing to become best-selling game of all time; it additionally competes as greatest title ever. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks for gaming as medium, and engaging with almost every other genre.

The Solution and Justification

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. One could readily select multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — actually, with challenge, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.

Restating the point, these represent titles that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers function at the hard edge interactive creation, developing some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Just like cinema stunt performers, they deserve recognition. Don't make them wait generations.
