PSG Overcomes Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Lift French Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now secured the season-opening trophy on 14 separate times.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the match featuring the French league winners and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger opened the net in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side fired twice in the closing moments to seize a shock advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial leveler in the dying moments to send the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all converted successfully for PSG to seal a 4-1 penalty win.

The record winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the past thirteen seasons.
